Barbecued

May 2nd, 2008 by Ellen

It was lunch time and I decided to eat out somewhere to break away from the usual styro-packed meals being delivered in the office. Across the building was Reyes Barbecue Bar & Grill Restaurant.

Store Background

There is no doubt that Reyes Barbecue got its inspiration from Manila’s barbecue capital, The Aristocrat Restaurant. It is a brave undertaking Frank Reyes, member of the Reyes clan, put on his shoulders. The task eventually paid off when a number of Reyes Barbecue food stalls and bar type restaurants opened all over the metro. The branch I visited was their bar & grill restaurant along Julia Vargas Avenue in Ortigas, Pasig City.

What’s On My Order Slip

pork barbecue

I remain an avid fan of pork barbecue and java rice for the longest time. So I ordered their 1-stick pork barbecue meal combo at P65. One-piece pork barbecue is at P35 each. Their Boneless Chicken Barbecue meal costs P99 per order.

Service Factor

Upon entering the place, I went straight to the counter and was greeted by their cashier I call No Name (no name plate as usual) who took my order. She told me that their one stick of barbecue weighs 85 grams. It was thoughtful but an ordinary folk does not understand that unless one sees it. I also thought this was a self-service fast food type of eatery so I waited for my order to come out and took money to pay the cashier. Then a guy in black shirt uniform, who apparently was their waiter, came to inform me to wait on my table and I could ask for the bill after eating. Their staff were nice. But the whole service concept is pretty confusing. Are they fast food, a restaurant or what? They charged me with 10% service charge. But where is the service?

It took 15 minutes for my order to come out. I was already very hungry.

Yummy Meter

The taste is just okay with me. Nothing astounding and Aristocrat about it. Their java rice is plain yellow rice. I was also given few strands of achara for sidings.

Facilities Check

The place is basically bar type with seats outside. I think it also has a second floor. This could be the place where people would like to have their barbecue and booze parties in the evening. Also I think they are grilling their barbecue outside the store because I saw smoke coming out near the entrance door.

Will someone replace their tent card? Someone might just swallow an inkblot if the inkjet material accidentally gets splashed with water.
