Odd Japanese Balls

The cooking process is long and tiresome.

It was mad curiosity that won us over to brave the long lines and have our Takuyaki balls. If you have been hiding in a cave for quite some time, the world has changed. Takuyaki kiosks have sprouted like mushrooms. They are all over selling those veggies balls cooked on hot griddles. They are sprinkled with chicken, fish or pork powder and slathered with hot or sweet and sour sauce. One thing for sure is that you’re in for a show.

Labor of love

Takuyaki was first introduced in Japan in 1935 by Endo Tomekichi. His first Takuyaki store is called Aizuya. Over the years, the business branched out to many parts of Asia and the United States. In the Philippines, the Takuyaki mania first spread in General Santos City in 1997. It was Edgino Bogayong II, a local entrepreneur, brought the odd Japanese snack to the market. They are now franchising it under the name Kuya Chito’s Takuyaki.
