Cebu’s Sutukil
My friend, Atty. Cat, said something about Cebu’s specialty restaurants during an evening picnic trip to Mountain View. At first, it didn’t really sound right to me. Who would want to dine in a restaurant that sounded like “shoot to kill”?
I was really clueless about this scary-sounding resto until Mayan and I passed by Mactan’s Shrine area the following day to look for swimsuits. We came across a restaurant called “sutukil”. It stands for sugba, tuwa and kilaw. This is Cebu’s answer to Manila’s “dampa”.
We went inside one of those sutukil restaurants. It operates like dampa where they display fresh catch for the day and show you a list of cooking instructions. Famished, we ordered fresh prawns at P75 and squid at around P100 per kilo. They charge an additional P70 to P100 for “paluto” depending on how you want your seafood cooked. We had prawns sauteed in garlic and butter and calamares.
Our total bill was between P450-P500. Not bad for a delicious sutukil lunch.
